National Mod Dunoon October 2006

National Mod Dunoon October 2006

The choir was jubilant after winning various prestigious trophies.

The Senior choir won The Sheriff MacMaster-Campbell Trophy for Rural Choirs and also The Grace Robertson Memorial Baton for the highest music mark in the competition. The choir scored an amazing 95 for their own choice in music.

Without a doubt the star of Mod 2006 is our own Alasdair Whyte of Salen. Alasdair won the coveted Gold medal, following in the footsteps of his Mum Riona. The Gold medal is made up of 2 qualifying competitions and then the top 4 singers sing in a Final competition. All his hard work paid off and he went into the Final as joint leader finishing up 3 points ahead of his main rival.

Well done Alasdair we are all so proud of you.

Well done to Janet Campbell who was placed 3rd in the Former First Prizewinners Solo competition and then joined forces with her daughter Jennifer to won the duet competition.

Recording for BBC2

Thanks go to Riona Whyte for organising the week, including the hotel accommodation (with the best views in Dunoon) and Chatters restaurant which did us proud.
We could not have wished for better weather, it was glorious - perhaps Riona had a hand in organising that too.
Thanks to Elizabeth for being the genius that she is.
Our thanks also go to all those other people who contribute in their own way to make the Isle of Mull Gaelic Choir a success.
