Phoenix Choir

Visit of Phoenix choir 3rd May 2003

The world renowned Phoenix Choir from Glasgow visited the Isle of Mull on the 3rd May. The Isle of Mull Gaelic Choir had made arrangements for the Phoenix Choir to hold their concert in Salen Parish Church with a buffet tea arranged in Salen Hotel. The Phoenix Choir had previously invited the Isle of Mull Choir to sing with them at the concert.

The concert was a huge success and very well attended. The Phoenix Choir was led by their very popular conductor Marilyn Smith who as usual helped the choir produce some magical music much appreciated by everyone. The content of the music was styled under the titles of "We rise again" and "Highland Cathedral" the former title being very appropriate as the Phoenix Choir grew from the ashes as it were of the Glasgow Orpheus Choir.

The Isle of Mull Choir gave a very good performance also, under their conductor Elizabeth Jack, despite the fact that a number of members were unable to attend. The Choir were very warmly applauded for their singing. The Phoenix Choir was thanked by John Archibold, President of the Mull Gaelic Choir.

The Phoenix Choir has invited the Isle of Mull Choir to join them in Iona Abbey when the Phoenix Choir visit next year so we hope that this will be possible and very much look forward to their next visit.
